Richard Ware is Global Vice President, Technology, for Mars, Incorporated, based in McLean, Virginia.  Appointed in 2006, Richard directs a global team that is responsible for Manufacturing and Engineering at over 140 manufacturing sites, Logistics, Purchasing and Research and Development for all facets of the company.

Richard joined Mars in 1988 and served in a variety of positions in Supply Chain, R&D and Procurement.  He initially joined Mars Chocolate in Slough, UK, as a Research Scientist in Chocolate and later relocated to The Netherlands to work on raw materials research.  Richard was also part of the cross-functional team that supervised the construction and start-up of the first Mars CIS manufacturing facilities in Moscow.  Following his six-year tenure in Russia, Richard returned to Belgium and held a number of senior management positions at the Mars Europe headquarters.  Under his leadership, he oversaw the restructuring of the Mars Europe operations base.  Since moving to a global role, he has been instrumental in leading the Mars corporate science and technology strategies, as well as assuming overall functional responsibility for the technical aspects of operations at Mars.  Richard is known for his ability to assemble and develop world-class teams, his business breadth, and his approachable style.

Richard began his career with the UK’s Ministry of Defense, and spent five years with them in the nuclear industry.  He holds a degree in Physics with Medical Physics from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Radiological Protection from The Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London.

In his spare time he enjoys maintaining an extensive collection of music CD’s, keeping fit and passionately following disappointing sports teams.
